PhD Uppsala university 1962. Full professor of Organic Chemistry at Umeå university 1965 -1969, Uppsala university 1969 - 1985. Graduate research professor Uppsala university 1985 - 1999. Emeritus 1999 - present. Distinguished visiting professor at the Quantum Theory Project, Chemistry and Physics, University of Florida, Gainesville, Florida, USA, several occasions 1989 - 1996. Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences 1972 - present, and its Nobel Committee for Chemistry 1972 - 1984, the Scientific Board the World Association of Theoretical Organic Chemists (WATOC) 1988 -1996. Vice President of the Royal Academy of Arts and Sciences at Uppsala 1996 - 1997. Research activities 1954 - present : The efforts are primarily characterized by the simultaneous use - from a remarkably early date - of experimental and theoretical (quantum chemical) and computational methods for solving or elucidating scientific problems. Keywords: Time and Space in Chemistry - kinetics, mechanisms, energetics, and dynamics. Research with biomedical relevance has been frequent, e.g. the synthesis of organic molecules specifically labeled with short-lived positron emitting radionuclides (especially 11C, with t½ = 20 min. cf. professor Bengt Långström, Department of organic chemistry and Uppsala university PET-Center), and biologically active sulfur- and selenium compounds. Present activities: Dynamics beyond Born-Oppenheimer, and elucidation of the molecular basis of enantioselectivity using kinetic isotope effects (theoretical and computational methods). New graduate students or post doc. fellows are no longer accepted. |
